How Do You Plan ’Unscheduled’ Blogging Breaks? (6 posts)

Topic tags: blogging, plan
  • Hi friends here at SME.

Blogging is a lot of fun. But it also has it challenges and some days a little frustrations.

The Theme I use for my blog did some major upgrades, and pretty much it is a hole new framework. So I decided to finally convert my blog into the new framework. And I chose spring break/easter break for to do the changes.

I have pretty much ended up redesigning my hole blog. And as I was prepared for there was some hickups here and there. But all in all I had prepared myself for this process.

In this process my hosting was due for renewal, and I decided it was time for me to change hosting. Was more decision that I wanted to try something different, and bring my blog to the next level. And I followed advice from my friends here and other places.

This process has taken more time and energy then I planned. And my blog posting has suffered a little for that. So I learned that I should had some articles prepared ahead of time that could use in this period. But I am not stressing to much over it.

I plan to catch up again next week. Hopefully I dont experience to many more hickups here.

How do you prepare or plan ‘unscheduled’ blogging breaks?

    Cheers…

  • @aremorch Some days, I just take the day (or week) off, especially if I don’t have anything to say. I’d rather not put up half-assed content just for the sake of putting something up, so I take the day off.

I also have issues because my client work always has to come first. If I don’t have time, I let it go.

However, having said that, I also try to have some timeless posts in the queue so I can publish one if I need to.

  • Hi @erikdeckers

That is a good approach. My wife works as a Supervisor with the Government, so she usually comes home late during the week. So weekends is our time together.

And in my niche there is not a high demand that I post daily content. So for me it is crucial that you know your niche. Like you clients always comes first.

But yeah something I will work more on now when I get to the next level with my blog, is to have some articles in queue to use when I take ‘unscheduled’ breaks.

    Cheers..

  • @aremorch I kind of go with the flow when it comes to blogging.  If I have an unscheduled leave of absence, I just announce it on my social networks and then apologize upon my return.  Most people will understand, especially if you come back with a new post on why you were gone and what changes you made to make reading your blog a better experience for your visitors.  Good luck with the changes!  :)

  • @aremorch PS. Off-topic, but just saw this -  http://ontolo.com/ranking-factors-hotels :)

  • Thanks @kristi-hines

Some great tips there. Experienced some of this yesterday and this morning, posted one article on a totally odd time yesterday. Was actually planning to push it out this morning. But seems to pick up retweets, shares and Likes now.

Happy with my changes so far. The new Frame work for the Theme I use is absolutely awesome. Make life so much easier. Though I realize that one of these days I might need to look into outsource some of my tasks.  Could have save me some time these last couple of weeks.

But it is kind of fun to learn some of the stuff too.

Thanks for the Ontolo link. It shows very well some of the challenges that we are aware of. The top domains represent OTAs (Online Travel Agents). This is why we push hard for Hotels to apply some proper Social Media Strategies to get higher SEO/SMO rankings. A lot of the top organic searches today primarily is OTAs.

But hey as they say challenges is just opportunities in disguise.

    Cheers..
