How do I add my blog to my Wordpress. org website? (5 posts)

  • I currently have a blog that is on Wordpress.com. It is a separate URL from my new Wordpress.org website. Therefore, I am missing essential, ‘remarkable content’ on my site. Can anyone explain to me how to integrate my blog onto my site. I have tried to make it a page of my site but that does not allow me to have the things I need in the right hand column or update my posts. Here are both URLs:marketingbytesblog.commarketingbytes.bizI do no mind having to transfer each post by hand. I just want my blog as part of my site. Thanks so much to anyone who can help me.

  • I think the problems you may be having may be a part of your theme. There are some themes that just won’t support certain widgets or plugins, so everything becomes a tradeoff — form vs. function.
I know there are several themes out there that will let you add just about anything and add just about any functionality — Woo Themes, Elegant Themes, Genesis Framework (I use that on my blog) — but even these aren’t perfect.
As far as transferring the blog itself, it can be done, although I’ve never done it. There are plenty of places online that give that information. And by having WP.com and WP.org, you’re going to have the easiest time of getting it done.

  • @mktngbytesmaven As far as adding your blog, it’s easy. In Pages, set up the page you want the blog on. Then go to Settings > Reading. In reading you’ll see “Front page displays.” Click the button for either “your latest posts” to have you blog on you front page (Which I’m guessing you don’t want.) or “A Static page” (This is the one you probably want.). From the drop down menus choose your front page and then your posts page (This is your blog page). You might have to manually transfer everything over. I’ve never done that so I’m not sure.

As far as the templates and what they support, unfortunately you’re on your own. Like @erikdeckers wrote, it’s a tradeoff.

  • Im not sure if I have understood you correctly but are you trying to transfer your blog posts from the .com site to the new one? You can’t actually incorporate your existing .com site to the new one as far as I know but you can transfer over all the info after exporting it and then importing it to the new site.

In .com go to Tools/Export and use the free option. Go to tools/import in .org and you should see an option to help you transfer over the info.

Make sure you backup your new site prior to doing the above just in case there are any issues with the import.

  • Thank you. EAch of you has helped to some extent. I still have some problems that are unresolved and some new ones from making the transfer.
The files did transfer over but some are cut short and will not show the entire post when prompted to read more. Also I can not get the comment box to show up after each post.
I am going to play around a bit and see what I can figure out. I am sure I will be back. Again, thanks so much for all your help.
