Guest Posting Difficulties (6 posts)

  • After reading that guest positing on other blogs offers many positive benefits I am going to give it a try. The problem I have is I am in the niche of mummy bloggers and there is only so much of dirty nappies and dummies I can write about, I would like to reach out more into helping those who blog, with tips and tricks I have come across in the 12 months I have been a blogger.

    I have what I believe a popular blog as such even though it is just “A Mummy Blog”, the past 3 months has seen;

    62,165 Visits

    48,308 Unique Visitors

    177,861 Page Views

    Klout Score 81

I wish to take the blog to the next level and take away the Mummy Blog niche and turn the blog into a professional blog and I would like to help others along the way. Do you think I will find it difficult to offer guest posting to other niches? What approach do you think would be best, I can write about traffic, SEO, social media etc. just as well as I do parenting, BUT I do have the mummy label attached. Is this a bad label to have in the professional blogging world?

If you can offer any advice or constructive ideas I would be very grateful – The Real Supermum Blog.

    Hi Emma,

You may find it difficult to transition your current blog into something other than parenting as your current audience are very likely to be moms or parents.  A couple options would be:

    • Introducing new sections to your blog, a very slow progression into the blog you’d like it to be however this approach would most likely take a really long time to get it to where you want it to be.
    • Starting fresh with a new URL.  This may be your best option as your audience is very niche based and the audience you would be writing for will be very different than your current audience.
Best of luck to whichever way you take your blog.

  • @therealsupermum This happen almost to all bloggers when they first start, my first blog was very general about life, I blogged about whatever comes into my mind, they it turn to be a fail!

Anyways, I must admit that being profiting from it what made me feel to continue, but with a new blog this time, and the best part is I took big advantages of my first blog, like some relationships, blogging experience, and more… and moved it to the new blog.

I started another blog about “Blogging” (a couple of years ago), then I thought I did a big mistake because this niche is not really easy, now the blog is getting more popular, and I can’t change its path anymore!

A year ago, I started another blog for design and web development, which what I do best, and things are going well, probably because of my first blog’s audiences. They have been great support to me, I can’t think of abandon this blog any time.

So, I suggest that you keep your old blog the way it is for now, and think of something new, make a plan, then start following that plan.

Our first blogs doesn’t have to be successful, but we should learn from it as much as possible! |

By the way, my blog is built based on guest blogging since the first day, so feel free to contribute to it any time, it shouldn’t be that hard, I will glad to assist you with anything regarding to guest blogging

  • What is your main goal?  To earn more money from the blog?

Based on your answer I can offer some constructive advice :)

  • @therealsupermum Although my blog didn’t have those kind of numbers in the beginning, I transitioned my main blog from poetry and creative writing to blogging and social media.  I lost a good bit of my original subscribers who had come for creative writing, but I also gained a lot of subscribers and traffic from the new topics.  If you need to make a change because you’re tired of blogging in your niche, that is one thing.  But if you’re making the change just because you want to make money and still love your niche, you may not need to make the drastic change.  From what I hear, mommy bloggers make a killing on product reviews and advertising.

  • @therealsupermum I don’t think it will be difficult to find guest blogging opportunities. You run a blog and you want to write about advice to help other bloggers. Regardless of the niche you write about the mechanics of running a blog e.g. setup, SEO, monetization are generally the same.

As far as writing on your own blog I’m sure there are many parents who would want to start a blog as well. Tell them how to get started, what to do and to avoid. You could easily transition your blog into a Parents that Blog or Blog/Work From Home type of site.

If you’d like to write about Blogging or Blog Monetization I’d love to have you on as a guest blogger. Just drop me an email at http://www.howwhowhen.com/contact.
