Google Search Results (18 posts)

  • This may have been covered in a previous post, however, would appreciate comments.  I recently started a new blog and have been working hard for the last 3 months optimizing, article writing, posting to blogs & journals.

When I searched Google to see if I was making any progress in my ranking, I was pleased to see that with the search terms I provided, which were very generic, my blog was showing up on the first page of my search.  This seemed too good to be true so I asked my friend in Kentucky to search Google using the exact same search criteria…the Bad news, I was no where to be found…Yikes

Question? Does Google somehow localized your search or cache it on your local home computer so the results look good for you locally, but not the rest of the world?

    My Blog: blog.qthree.ca

My generic search terms: small business strategies or small business public relations

  • Yup, Google personalizes search results based on a variety of factors, including your web history, location (which Google can determine based on your IP address), etc. If you want to see where you actually stand, do the following (note that you should do ALL of these things):

    1. Log out of Google and clear your cookies
    2. When you perform a search query, look in the left sidebar and in the location textbox, type in “USA”.
    3. Once the search query goes through, manually edit the URL and include the following at the very end: “pw=0″ (without the quotation marks)

That should sufficiently depersonalize everything and give you a better perspective of where you rank for your targeted keywords.

Let me know if you need any more help!

  •  <a href="mailto:s@lukaspleva“>@lukaspleva  The text box won’t let me change the location to USA. I’m located in Canada.  I can choose a different Canadian city?

  • I switched to Firefox, put pw=0 at the end.  The result is more realistic. Thanks

Logout of your email and try your search again. =)

If you do want to target those keywords for a larger audience (I mean, besides you ;) ) then I might suggest that you change your home page title to something like: “Small Business Strategies & Public Relations | Q3 Marketing”

Also, I notice that on most of your posts you have a lot of spammy comments…that might be hurting your visibility as well. I’m not 100% sure on this, but having a lot of links, even no-follow links, to sites like samsung1080phdtv.net/ and www.bandeirantes.org/ can’t be helping.

    Just my .02.

  • great info, thanks for the instructions. @lukaspleva

  • I moved your post to the blogging club. I think it has great info for this club and is more fitting here. @dongrandy

  • @deairby @rich-brooks thanks for your comments.  Rich you are correct on the spam.  It just happened this week.  Any ideas on how to stop the spam comments?

  • @dongrandy

I didn’t check to see if you’re on WP, but if so, take a look at Disqus. I use that comment plugin both for my blog (http://www.flyteblog.com) and I know @mike-stelzner uses it for SME.

  •  Yes, @rich-brooks I use WP.   Activated akismet last night to see if that would help.  The spam traffic has slowed down, but still getting thru.  I’m evaluating all comments for spam as well.

    I will look at Disqus.

Can you have another look at posts on my blog to see if the spammy comments have been deleted.

    I appreciate your comments.

  • @dongrandy

Disqus uses Akismet but it is a nice comment’s program.

  • @iamconsulting

After I started using Disqus the spam comments stopped.  Thankful for that…

  • @dongrandy

That’s great!  Glad it worked out!

I use Disqus as well for my blog and since changing over have not seen any spam come through.  Very thankful as well. =)

  • @iamconsulting

I haven’t had any comments since I made the change.  Any comments directed to my Blog will now come to my Disqus comment page.  Is that correct?

  • @dongrandy

Yes.  If you click “Comments” or “Comments” > “Disqus” on the sidebar of your blog, you can moderate them there or you can go to Disqus.com

  • @iamconsulting

    Thanks for your help.

  • @dongrandy

Of course!  I love to help! =)
