Google Analytics (9 posts)

  • Hello Everyone,

Our landing page was just launched yesterday. We attempted to set up Google Analytics on the site. I was told it is all set up. However, it is still showing zero visitors. I have had friends go to the page to have a look so I know there have been visitors. When I log in to our account it shows “receiving data”. I must not have properly installed to our page aka we didn’t do something right. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could have gone wrong?

  • Have you set the code to track every page or just a single page?

  • @beautesociale It can take 24 – 48 hours to start showing data in Google Analytics. I see the code is installed on your website (the one listed on your Twitter profile). Maybe give it until tomorrow to see what happens. Also note that if you or your friends are using browsers that don’t allow cookie tracking (it’s an option you can change in Firefox) then GA won’t note the visits.

  • I had this problem when I first added Google Analytics. I can’t remember how I worked it out, but this article might be helpful …

If you are having trouble with Google Analytics not tracking your website, there are a few reasons this might be happening:

1.Have you republished your site? You must republish your site in order for any changes you have made to take effect. To do this click on the green “Publish to the web” button.
2.Have you copied the complete code provided by Google Analytics and pasted it into the Google Analytics ID field? To check, click on Site > Site Settings > Tracking > Google Analytics.
3.When did you add Google Analytics to your site? It takes 24 hours for data on your site to be available in your Google Analytics account.

  • @kristi-hines Thank you so much for your reply! I’m learning as I go along :) I didn’t know it took time before it “kicks in” so I will wait, then. Thanks, again!!

  • @kathybernard Thanks so much Kathy! I appreciate you taking the time out to respond! I am going to wait 24 hours and see if that does it.

  • May I also ask this (what may seem like a stupid question)? If it kicks in after 24 hours, will it still show results from the previous 24 hr period?

  • @beautesociale It should show results from the moment you installed the code – when it is first installed it takes a while to get that data to populate in GA. After that point, you should see data up until the last few hours (you have to change the date to today’s date in GA as it will always default to the day before).

  • @kristi-hines Thanks so much for that information! You were completely correct and it’s tracking now :) It’s exciting to see the numbers go up :) I really appreciate everyone’s time in answering my question!
