Good Blogging Themes (19 posts)

  • Hi people,

Just started blogging recently and would like to know where and how to get very good blogging theme(s). Any suggestions or tips for a newbie like me?

    Thanks a lot!!

  • @mosesakinmuyiwa Hi Moses.  I tend to only recommend premium themes, and the ones I’ve used are listed in this post -  http://kikolani.com/how-to-start-a-wordpress-blog.html under the Choosing a Great WordPress Theme section. :)

  • Thanks Kristi,

I am I will have a look at the post and possibly it will help me to decide.

    Regards,

  • Hi @mosesakinmuyiwa , I always recommend three themes , Thesis Theme, Genesis Themes, and ElegantThemes.

These are the best to go with in my opinion, and all are premium, you really don’t want to go with a free theme, with premium you get a hand and benefit from support.

  • Thanks Hesham, I really appreciate all the helps.

  • As long as it does not get in the way of your blog its all aesthetics

  • I agree with @hesham. I use Thesis on most of my sites and it gives you lots of flexibility in customizing your design. Elegant Themes is also a good choice as is Genesis.

@kristi-hines wrote a fabulous post about Thesis vs. Genesis: http://kikolani.com/thesis-vs-genesis-comparing-premium-wordpress-themes.html

  • i use suffusion and love it to bits.  its free and probably the most flexible of the free themes ive used

i also want to give headway 3.0 a try, but too much customisation could mean i waste hours and hours getting the theme “just right”

    its paid and here.  http://headwaythemes.com/

    :)

  • @mosesakinmuyiwa
You may also like iTheme Builder:http://ithemes.com/purchase/builder-theme/very very very flexible and lets you create many different layouts and styles for your blog.
    or
    Allure WP Themes:http://allurethemes.com/
If you are using another blogging platform, like Blogger, there are also tons of freebies there. TypePad, you can only choose from “their” template gallery.

  • Thank you @kristi-hines! Your blog post is just what I needed – fantastic information. I just tweeted it as most of my current twitter followers are authors who I am sure will also appreciate it.

  • @rloufek Thanks Roberta!  :)

  • @dextereugenio I think I’m going to give suffusion a try; you’ve recommended it.

  • @mosesakinmuyiwa @Durk Barton Hi Moses & Durk. I will recommend you the Genesis themes which are premium themes but these are best for following 3 reasons;

    1. Search engine optimisation: Start of the art code and smart design architecture means search engine clearly see your content.
    2. Designs: Lots of Great designs options and these are used by top bloggers like, problogger.net, chrisbrogan.com.
    3. Customization Customisable according to your requirements.
     You can check these themes on the link below;

  • @atlantarobin

    love it!

such a flexible and great looking theme!!!

Dexter, I just spent about an hour clicking on all the links in the comments section after the showcase section of Suffusion. Just wow! What people have done with this theme is pretty dang incredible. And what a nice guy the designer is to give that theme away for free AND stick around to support it so well. The comments are full of raves over the versatility of Suffusion, and how relatively simple it is to use. The site Tokyo Bittersweet is ultra incredible, both for the look, the photography, and all, but also because it’s so well done — stunningly well done. But clearly it’s a dressed up version of the same simple design of all the others. I love this theme. Gonna try it.

Thanks for recommending it. At first, I thought it too plain. But then I dug deep and found all those links in the comment section. He really should ask to use some of those in the showcase. The one’s he has do NOT do justice to the power of his theme.

    Thanks again,
    Robin Carlisle

  • @atlantarobin

no probs,  i have donated a fair bit of money to the dev.  hes a great guy and provides this free of charge.

ive supplied him with more “cups of coffee” to keep him going.

thanks for the feedback!  i have no affiliation whatsoever with this site, the theme or the developer, but just love to share my awesome experience with this theme.

  • I looked at that coffe cup, too, thinking well this is the first time I’d really consider tipping someone online. Thanks for reminding me of that coffee cup. I’m planning on using Suffusion tomorrow and will gladly leave a little something behind. That guy just wows me! And so glad to hear that he impressed you that much, too.

Thanks for this gem of a recommendation, Dexter. Crossing my fingers this old broad won’t screw things up when I try to use it. Crossing my fingers all will go well. Wish me luck!

    Robin Carlisle
