Genesis Framework Bottom Nav Bar (9 posts)

  • I want to edit the bottom nav bar on my blog but I can’t find where to do that. It has the Wordpress Login link and I don’t want that to be public. Have just gone and deleted all 670 users on my blog (most of them spammers) as I want people to join the RSS feed or my email list and not my wordpress site. Any suggestions from other Genesis users?

  • First to solve the “unwanted users”, you need to go into the settings of your blog and under “General” you need to unclick the box that says “Anyone can register” next to “Membership”. and Under “Discussion”, make sure you have the “moderate comments” checked. This really helps with a lot of the spam. Okay, have Akismet plugin in place helps too :) But to start on the dashboard, this would be the place.

As for the footer, you need to make the changes IN the “footer”. I don’t use the Genesis framework, but I am going to assume that they have a “Theme Options” under “Appearance” like WPMU themes does. Look for the “footer” section and make your changes there. Ideally, you should be able to make some of the changes you want there. also check your widgets .. sometimes the info is there.

I personally never use the blogroll or the “meta” box — it may be the “meta” box you need to change as well for the footer.

Good luck! I love your site by the way!! great information!!! and I like the WAHP concept, as there are a lot of dads at home now :)

  • @casmccullough I use the Simple Hooks plugin (http://www.studiopress.com/plugins/simple-hooks) and copy the following into the genesis_footer Hook:

Stuff I want in the footer here.

Also, I check the box that says “Unhook genesis_do_footer() function from this hook?”

This is with the Manhattan theme – I assume the rest might work similarly. Be sure to check the forums too – there are a lot of solutions for specific questions. :)

  • @kristi-hines Thanks so much Kristi, I’ll give that a whirl.

@kimberlylosavio Thanks for your comments too. I have done everything you’ve said already but Genesis footer info doesn’t show in the theme info under “appearance.” It’s a bit funny that way. Oh, and thanks heaps for your comments. I’ve spent a lot of time joujiing up the website in the past couple of weeks to make it more user friendly.

  • @casmccullough @kimberlylosavio Genesis works with a different system than other WordPress themes.  You have to know how to use the hooks system to call specific areas vs. finding templates for the footer, header, etc.  It takes a little getting used to, but it’s a good system once you’re comfortable with it.

  • @kristi-hines Yes, it does take some getting used to. I nearly screwed up my whole site the other day trying to add a new widget area in the functions.php. Got a lecture from hubby about not backing up (He’s in IT). Lesson learned.

  • @casmccullough I run into the same issue with Thesis.  I’ve learned to have a backup copy of the functions file ready to FTP if I break my entire site with an update.

  • @casmccullough an even easier way to achieve this than Simple Hooks is Simple Edits:

  • @casmccullough ”Simple Hooks” plugin is the best to change the specific things with in the Genesis Framework themes & backing up your live site before making any change in to your theme is very necessary.

I got a same experience doing changes on my site without doing proper back up & I have to face lot of trouble getting my site live from the same it was.
