Free Images… (5 posts)

  • Hi folks,

Can you please tell me the difference between using Google free images and istockphoto images?

    Pros/cons?

    Thank you!

  • @nicole-steinberger Google search brings up any images used on the Internet. Those images are like content on the Internet – not all of it is free for public use. Most of it is copyrighted.

if you buy images from iStockPhoto, you’re buying the license to use it as described in their usage terms.

If you want free images you can use on your blog, you can use Flickr Advanced Search and check the box to search within Creative Commons licensed images. These are images that the owner is granting permission for anyone to use in exchange for attribution.

  • Thank you!

  • Photopin.com is great for free images (free with link). The first dozen or so entries in the search results are often links to istock, but there are hundreds after the first entry and they are often quite good in that they don’t have that stock photo feel. Just add the required link at the end of your post.

I recently found an image there that was so good I contacted the photographer and bought rights to it.

  • Another great resource for Public Domain photos anyone can use for personal or commercial use WITHOUT attribution is Pixabay.com. It has a lot of stunningly beautiful photos of the utmost quality. Never seen such a high quality collection of PD photos. If anyone knows of another high quality source like that for free photos that can be used for commercial purposes, please leave the link here.
