finding guest bloggers (8 posts)

Topic tags: blogging, guest posting
  • How do you get a guest blogger? Do you just copy someone else and link to the original or do you contact them to write for your blog? Where are these people to be found?

  • @deairby Hi Dea.  We have another thread going about MyBlogGuest.com which can be a good source of guest bloggers.  I also put a few tips on how to attract guest bloggers in the thread too!

As far as copying posts, most bloggers won’t go for, but some will – you will definitely want to ask them first.  One of the huge issues bloggers have right now are sites that scrape content which means they lift your entire post and use it for their own.  If you just use someone else’s content without asking them, they may assume you are one of those sites and they can take action to report you as a content thief.  Definitely something you want to avoid at all costs!  :)

  • @kristi-hines Thanks for the link. I’ll go check it out. Also, giving the link to someone else is a way to benefit from their content AND still give them credit, right?

  • @deairby It is, just be sure to get their permission first.  Some bloggers have a Creative Commons licensing on their blog content, but others really prefer it only to only be on their own site.

  • @kristi-hines thanks, Kristi. I’m learning about the creative commons-first heard about it from you…

  • @deairby, I definitely agree with  @kristi-hines  about getting permission first.  I had a lot of success when I launched my site in getting content from fairly high-profile bloggers in my niche (all but one yes out of about 15 requests).  What I asked for was a piece of older content that had some dust on it :)  And in every case, when I put the post up on my site, the author made some mention of it on Facebook and/or Twitter.

  • I think you should also be cautious just lifting because your content by search engines may not be seen as original and that could hurt your reputation online.

I have found guest bloggers simply by asking people I find interesting that I meet at places like this to write.  Most people often are quite happy to do it as a means to promote their business as well.

  • @carolinechen-whatley Great point of advice, Caroline, thanks.
