Editorial Calendars (7 posts)

  • Wondering how others handle planning their editorial calendars. For one of the blogs I write for I have my January 2012 post ideas in place but nothing beyond January as of yet.

How many months out do you plan posts? What are the sources of ideas for your posts?

  • Hi Debbie! I usually plan my posts on a monthly basis too. The Google Keyword Tool and the Hot Topics tool are good resources for ideas.

  • I plan three months at a time.  I do my monthly subject then I will do a paragraph on each one so that when it comes time to expand I know what I wanted to talk about. I have even gone as far as using my Catch.com (like Evernote) to clip things I see that I want to remember so that I can use that info when it comes time.

  • @caren Thanks, Caren. I haven’t used the hot topics tools and will certainly check it out!

  • @rebecca  Great suggestion about doing clips with tools such as catch.com and evernote.

I’m a big fan of evernote and also use it as a place to collect links and other material I want to go back to read later on as part of the research process–but haven’t thought about it strategically as part of my editorial calendar moving out a few months!

  • Catch.com is like evernote only it allows one click access with my google apps so everything is connected.

I discovered doin that when I found something and I knew I would be writing a blog post on it…I started a file called “Future Blog Posts” and now things go in there and I can easily find them.

  • @rebecca Oh, good. I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
