  • I have been trying to get some seo boosted on my blog and changed titles and keywords and thought I was doign well , Google tools now tells me I have 99 Duplicate title tags?

How do I get rid of these or are they not important?

  • website link?

  • sorry x http://www.therealsupermumblog.com

  • Duplicate title tags is referring to the <title> tag within the <head> tag of your website pages, NOT the h1 tag that is the title of your blog posts.

I see you are using Wordpress, are you using some sort of SEO plugin? Like http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

Since you have a fairly large website finding out the content of all your title tags and which ones contain duplicate text may be a bit daunting, but it is possible to “scrape” this data.  Check out  http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/ They have a video tutorial on the page that will give you a better visual of what the deal is and a free version that you should be able to use.

  • I use  - Yoast Wordpress SEO – google tools list all 99 urls for me just had no idea what to do with them

  • OK what do I do once I have found them?

  • Well that’s great, I’m glad your good to go.

Since you’ll be redoing title tags you can ck out my reply to a SEO Titles & Keywords post earlier today. It includes some suggestions and a couple of informative links.

    Cheer!

    Which am I changing?

  • They are the same post with different urls ?

  • Can follow the links to your website and copy the url there?

    I got  http://www.therealsupermumblog.com/2012/05/reading/
But the first link took me to MY webmaster interface

  • @therealsupermum That message is saying that 99 pages on your website (pages, blog posts, etc) have the same SEO title tag. If you click on that link in Webmaster Tools, it should show you some of the pages it is references so you can fix them. To fix them, just change the SEO title tag to something unique for each page.

  • But both pages are the same? just have a dif url?

  • I can’t tell yet. I need you to copy and paste both urls so I can see them.

If you copy and paste links directly from your Webmaster Tools interface then I get the additional code in the links. (that’s not entirely accurate, but I don’t know how else to explain it to you)
You could try right clicking on the links within the webmaster tool interface and select “copy link address” then I will get the direct url (http//www.thereal…) and not the link anchor text.

  • @therealsupermum

There are several reasons this could happen.  It could be that at some point you changed the permalink structure of your URL, possibly to include the date.  It could also be from having the same post under multiple categories.  You may have inadvertently used the same title for multiple posts.  There could be other reasons as well.  If you could post a handful of links (maybe 10 for a decent look), I can tell you what the issue is and how to fix it.
