Download manager Plugins (4 posts)

Topic tags: email, plugins, Wordpress
  • Hi,

I’m curious if anyone here uses download manager plugins for WP and if so which one?

I finally am starting to get together my series of presentations that I’d like to make available for visitors of my site.  But I’m debating between hosting the document in WP and using a download manager to control what gets downloaded or using something like Aweber to email the document to the user and not bother with hosting it up on my site.

I was leaning towards using WP’s functionality because then at least if anything should happen to the policies at Aweber, I still have my documents.  And I can still use something like Aweber to mail them the actual link to the document rather than the full document itself.

    Any suggestions?

  • @carolinechen-whatley Are you thinking to use Aweber in order to get people to subscribe to a mailing list before they get the download?  That’s a great way to get subscribers with a free report, presentation, etc.  They have the most lenient policies that I know of considering what people do on their network.  :)

  • Hi @kristi-hines.  Thanks.  I’m considering I need to take the next step and start getting people’s emails to be able to reach my potential market.

Does Aweber give you statistics on who actually downloaded the attachments to the email sent?  Or do you still just send a link and then use a tracker on the link side to see who downloaded?

I guess I’m struggling with trying to figure out if I do this, how do I know if people are really getting what I’m sending.  Does that make sense?

  • @carolinechen-whatley Aweber has link click tracking, so you would get statistics about how many people clicked the link within an email.  You *might* even get to see which subscribers click the link.  I don’t use the link click tracking myself because I just promote blog posts, but I know that I can see a report of which subscribers opened an email (assuming the email has some kind of graphics in it), so I’d assume they track who clicked on the link as well.  You can read more about it here - http://www.aweber.com/faq/questions/323/What+is+Click+Tracking%3F.  That report doesn’t say anything about showing you who clicks on the links. That part might just be my wishful thinking.  :)
