Dead RSS Feed! (6 posts)

  • Hey guys,

Help! My RSS feed hasn’t broadcasted any of my new posts after 4/24/2012, which is a huge annoyance, especially since I have a Triberr account, and that block stops any chances of multiplying my reach. And if I post on any blogs using the CommentLuv commenting system (including on my own blog), the 4/24 post is the most recent post that shows up (I’m on Blogger, by the way).

Can anyone shed some light on why this is happening? Does this have anything to do with Google’s recent updates (Panda, etc.)?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • @mellissathomas The one time this happened to me, it was because I copied and pasted a post from Microsoft Word straight into WordPress.  There was some kind of special characters embedded in the Word document that didn’t play well with XML.  The only way I could solve it was to delete the offending post (usually the last one that published to RSS successfully) and republish it.  For the republished version, take the text out of Microsoft Word and drop it into Microsoft Notepad.  That should strip the special characters.  Then copy it out of Notepad and paste it into the new post.  Be warned that republishing might change the permalink too – but hopefully it should fix the feed. Then going forward, don’t copy / paste out of Word.

  • @kristi-hines Wow. Thank you so much for letting me know that, Kristi. I’ve been copying every single post I’ve ever written directly from MS Word to my WYSIWYG editor.

I have some homework to do now. :) Thanks again.

  • The best way to do this in Wordpress is to copy the post into Notepad and then to the site. Or, in the editing section of Wordpress (where you place the post), there is a small box labeled with a “W”. That opens a window that lets you place the text into it and it will strip out any coding.

  • @mellissathomas Copying from Word worked for me several times – the one that caused the issue was from a guest blogger who had some fancy formatting in the post.  It might be a formatting or setting you changed and didn’t even notice.

  • @anitacohen-williams Thanks, Anita. I’ll keep that in mind when I make the switch to WP (I’m still on Blogger at the moment).

@kristi-hines That might be the case, Kristi. Thanks again.
