Corporate Blogging – What is best practice for vetting guest bloggers? (9 posts)

  • I have a question for the group. Is there a best practice process for vetting guest bloggers for a corporate/nice-industry blog?

Background: We run a young, niche blog that deals with topics related to operating aircraft. We’ve been building traction in our industry, and now we are beginning to get requests from other companies/consultants/etc (all non-competitors) in our industry who want to contribute as guest bloggers. The subject matter these potential guest bloggers would contribute may be valuable to our readers, but we aren’t necessarily subject matter experts (SMEs) in these topics to fully vet the content. I’m sure there are some established best practices in this regard, and I’m hoping this group can help demystify process.

  • You could always ask other vendors who ARE experienced in those topics to check it out.

At the same time, you should be able to rely a little bit on those guests to provide the best information, since they’re putting their name and byline on the blog post.

To be doubly-sure, include a disclaimer that says, “The views in this blog post are those of the blog author, and not [YOUR COMPANY]. To the best of our knowledge, this information is accurate.]

  • @kenpaynter Most of the people who have contacted me about writing for their site have done so by seeing my content on other sites in their industry. That might be a tight niche, but if you can find other blogs that have content like what you are looking for, poke through them to see if they have guest authors.  Then do a Google search for them to see more content by them.

Definitely like @erikdeckers suggest too!  Just in case they say something that you miss in a post.  :)

  • @kenpaynter Make sure you read things that they wrote before and how the writer deals with comments. Some people write well, but don’t like when a comment disagrees with the stated opinion.

  • @erikdeckers@kristi-hines @richardmclaughlin - Thanks for the feedback. It’s very helpful.

I also need to develop Guest Post Guidelines. I found a couple articles addressing this. Do you know of any resources/blogs/articles that you think address this well?

  • @kenpaynter You can always take a look at these and modify them to fit your needs.  :)

  • @kristi-hines Thanks for the links!

  • @kristi-hines EXCELLENT!

  • thanks @kristi-hines
