Complaints about GoDaddy? (7 posts)

Topic tags: godaddy, hosting
  • Currently we host all of our domains with GoDaddy. I also encourage any clients that do not currently have hosting, to go with GoDaddy as well since that is the site that we have the most experience with. However, I have noticed quite a few bloggers who say “Stay far away from GoDaddy.” My experience has been quite positive so far. I am curious to know what specific complaints or issues bloggers have had and if it would be worth my time to find another host for our sites and our client sites.

    Any feedback would be appreciated!

  • @bcbsmedia Some people don’t like them because they use sex to sell domain names. Others don’t like them because they originally supported SOPA/PIPA, but backed down after the Internet got mad at them. Finally, some people don’t like their business practices or the overall personality of Bob Parsons. And there are times their servers are slow and I think one client’s GoDaddy server went down once for less than an hour.

So, most people don’t support GoDaddy on moral grounds, but I’ve heard very few actual uptime complaints about them.

  • @erikdeckers Thank you for your input. I just wanted to be sure because I’ve never heard any specific complaints, just “GoDaddy is the worst” or other vague things like that. As I said, I’ve never really had a bad experience with them (nor have my clients) so I wouldn’t take the time to move everything without a good reason.

  • @bcbsmedia Hello Lily, I am struggling with the same issue. I lean towards GoDaddy based on feedback from some top bloggers, yet the perception seems very negative after the SOPA fiasco. I appreciate your input, because in the end it depends on good old fashioned service, support, speed and uptime based on the actual experience of users.

  • @jay_rombach Hi Jay! I have had a few reasons to contact GoDaddy in the past (both billing and technical questions) and have always received great customer service. That was definitely a relief after the headache of dealing with our other website (which used to be hosted through Microsoft Office Live). So between customer service and ease of use, I think I will stay with GoDaddy (unless someone in this thread changes my mind :) )

  • From my own personal experience — godaddy is not user friendly with the wordpress platform software. And if a problem comes up, I have yet to experience one person who tries to help with more than “we don’t help with software issues”. But that is not the biggest reason I left godaddy or why I strongly recommend others go elsewhere.

godaddy’s advertisement sexualizes women in ALL their ads! Guess what?!?!? I don’t care to sign in and see a half naked racecar driver or washed up actress thank you very much >_< I will give godaddy credit as they have dressed up their sponsors a bit more in the past 6 months. But that does not change the fact that they did it, they do it and they don’t care — just as long as they get more people to sign up with them.

I do not support a company that supports bullies who make money off insulting fat people to lose weight! I do not support a company that places code in their own featured software (website tonight to be specific) that continues to run in the background even AFTER you turn off that option. godaddy is sexist, unethical and they cheat!
This is all from my own personal experiences with this company over the past 4 years. The only good thing I can say is that they are quick to transfer in or out of other hosting companies. And they did a fine job. They were awesome when I transferred out of yahoo to godaddy and they did answer all my questions with that. It was the course of the next 3 years that my opinion changed of them. — but that is the ONLY positive thing i can say about this company.
I have been using my current hosting company — Dreamhost and I have yet to have any problems. I don’t have to worry about seeing half naked women on my home page and Automatic and WP are 2 of their sponsors!

  • @kimberlylosavio I personally haven’t had much issue with using WordPress with GoDaddy and even when I did I was able to get technical support from GoDaddy. I do appreciate your input though and will keep your comments in mind when making the decision to switch. I will also put Dreamhost on my list of possible new hosts :)
