Chicklet in Menu Tab on Blogger (9 posts)

  • Club Buddies,
HELP!  I set up an RSS feed for a client on blogger’s blogspot.com for their blog and had it where the potential visitors could see the box to the left where it says, Subscribe via Email, as a widget.  All they had to do was to type their email address in and they click submit.
My client wants to have the RSS chicklet on the menu tab at the top that says “Subscribe” and have the chicklet in front of it as seen on an example site here: http://www.reneehindman.com/blog.
Does anyone know how to get the chicklet in the menu row with the tabs as seen on the above reference?  One thing I noticed is that the example blog is on wordpress and my client’s is on blogspot but I am sure there is a way!

I personally think it’s better to just have the visitors pop in their email address and click submit but I am paid to do what I am asked to do. :-)

Any resources you can provide to me on this is greatly appreciated!

  • Hiya, the link you posted seems to be out of action…. I would have no idea as to how to fix the difficulty on the client’s site keep in mind that blogspot has some excellent help pages. Good luck taming the little chiclet.! daveM

  • @seleanawn On Blogspot, it would have to be custom coded into the design template. You can access it by going to Layout > Template > Edit HTML (assuming the template already has a horizontal nav bar).

The one you have as an example was either custom coded or the theme came with the option to have menu items associated with a link.

  • @kristi-hines, Thanks. I explored the option of adding it with Javascript/HTML but dont know where to put it in the code atmosphere. I will save the current code info and play with it.

  • @seleanaw What’s the site?

  • @kristi-hines, It’s not fully launched yet because we are still tweaking the pictures but it is amycassonphotography.blogspot.com.

  • @seleanaw
    Maybe give this a try.
If you can get into this line in the code:
    <li><a href=’http://feeds.feedburner.com/AmyCassonPhotography’>Subscribe</a></li>
    Change it to:
    <li><a href=’http://feeds.feedburner.com/AmyCassonPhotography’> <img src=”http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3121/2809980098_028a484bc6_o.jpg” width=”12″ height=”12″ /> Subscribe</a></li>
And see if that gets the job done.

  • Hi @kristi-hines, I tried it and it didn’t work. The only thing it did was have the word “subscribe” as a clickable link and the chicklet itself did not show up.  Thanks for sending it over though.

My client is now actually thinking of moving her website to wordpress and of course using wordpress for her blog too so this is a non-issue for the time being.

Thanks for all of your help.

  • @seleanaw Ah, it’s worth a shot – those Blogger templates are tricky. Shouldn’t be a problem working with WordPress though! :)
