Can one use pics from Flickr and if so what is the proper etiquette for crediting them? Should you include a link back to the pictures author? Any and all hints and tips on this gratefully received.
@jeremyknight I use the Flickr Advanced Search (http://www.flickr.com/search/advanced/) and check the box for Creative Commons to get images for my blog. Then just be sure you give a link back to the photo as credit – read the description as sometimes people are ok with just a link to the photo on Flickr, but others have more specific instructions such as linking back to their website.
@jeremyknight
there is also a group “Free Use Photos” that you can check out http://www.flickr.com/groups/freeuse
Another source for free image is:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
Just remember as @kristi-hines stated “ be sure you give a link back to the photo as credit”cheersJules
I recommend installing Zemanta.com in your browser. As you type your post, Zemanta reads it, and gives you a choice of copyright free images to use. Many of these come from Flickr or the Wikipedia.
@anitacohen-williams – very cool, thanks for the tip! I just installed the chrome extension.
Thank you for the tip @anitacohen-williams
I use @kristi-hines method, but want to thank @anitacohen-williams for the great tip on Zemanta. That’s a great tool
@jeremyknight Here’s an example of how I use Flickr images:
http://www.howwhowhen.com/10-sure-fire-headlines-for-your-next-blog-post-or-landing-page/
I use the ALT tag to credit the owner of the image and clicking on the image takes you to the Flickr page where the image came from.
Hope that helps!
This is a good tool too for creative commons images and there’s a wordpress plugin that ensures you have the right attribution. http://compfight.com/
@boxcarmarketing thanks for the tip! Looks like a great tool.
@boxcarmarketing. I downloaded that plug-in and tried to click something to put it in a post and nothing happened. Is there an update or am I missing something.
@deereinhardt Hi Dee, I’m not sure but here are the links to the support thread for the plugin. Someone there will have more tech expertise than me. It might not be correctly associated with your wordpress install.
