building credibility? (6 posts)

  • How are you building credibility on your blog? How long does/did it take to reach credibility? What one thing has contributed most to establishing credibility?

  • @deairby I think “reaching” credibility is a relative thing, in terms of timing these days. A lot depends on how your posts are received, commented on, referred to, tweeted, etc.

Personally, establishing the credibility has a lot to do with thought leaders in the space doing the aforementioned. Obviously, if there are other “pros” such as speaking engagements, books, ebooks, published articles, they all go a long way to shoring up credibility.

  • @deairby I would say I gained good credibility about a year and a half into blogging.  I don’t know if it was one particular thing that did it, but I did it through blog commenting, answering questions on social media & email, guest posting, and overall creating good content.  I think helping people out in your area of expertise is really what does the trick – the people you help (especially if they are bloggers) will typically write about you in their blogs or mention you on social media when you help them out.  Then their readers / followers see that, start following you, and after a while, you become well known in your niche!

  • @kristi-hines thanks for your input

  • @deairby  I tend to lend credibility to people whom simply get out there and do it on a consistent basis. Now whether or not I give them credibility based on their opinion is another thing entirely. But if it is street cred, “Nike”! Just do it!

Keep it real, don’t self inflate… Those are the things I personally look for in someone to consider credible.
