Blogging for a Different Audience (8 posts)

  • Does anyone utilize their blog to speak to an audience that they hope to grow in?
Right now my local business has knowledge of who our customer is, Women 35-55 typically with families, but we would like to grow into the Gen X and millennial group perhaps using social media like YouTube and the blog as a tool.
I would appreciate any thoughts or feedback you have.

  • @kimberlycarlo That’s definitely a great way to use your blog! I’ve seen blogs that are planning to launch products to a specific audience.  In the weeks / months before the launch, they write posts that cater to their main audience but also towards that specific target that they plan to market their new product too.  It’s just a matter of finding a way to create content that will appeal to your current audience (assuming you want to keep them on board) as well as your new target audience!

  • Agree with Kristi. And it may be difficult to cater both audiences. Maybe you want to create a separate blog for the new focused audience.
I do that to. I have a Dutch blog and am switching to international. One is at a .nl domain and the new one has the same domain now with the .com extension.

  • @ernohannink  My concern is that we are one brand with two separate lines of business, a supermarket & garden center. So I hate to make a 3rd or 4th blog to cater to all different types of audiences.

I do wonder if it’s easier to just target our existing audience with traditional media and then use social media for young families.

  • I would start with one blog, one business combines with one audience. See how this works. If it works good you can always decide to add another blog and maybe hire a VA to help you there.
BTW for me age 35-55 would be Gen X (born between 1961-1981).

  • I have a client with the same problem. Their current customer base is woman aged 30 – 60, but they want to tap into the younger generation and the male gender. I recommended a social media/PR strat that has been working well. Especially if you use Bloggers to help you get the word out. We targeted bloggers that had a young readership and it has worked like a charm

  • @calepissarra Thank you!!! This sounds reassuring. I love the idea of age appropriate bloggers and developing relevant content around them.

Counting down the days until I can relaunch our blog with this strategy in mind :)

  • My own blog is focused to the female market and mainly mothers but I do know that dads read it too and I have wrote a few posts generated for the male market.
