Blogging Challenges (10 posts)

  • Has anyone ever participated in a blogging challenge before? I’ve heard it’s a great way to increase page views, search engine ranking, convert readers into loyal readers, and improve your blogging skills. I’d love to hear back from anyone who has done a challenge or something similar to one and see what you thought about it and what your experience was like.

I’m participating in one now (http://blueprintdallas.com/blog/?p=454) and would love to have a good knowledge base about blogging challenges so I can participate in this one effectively.

    Thanks!

  • @sloanec I’ve never participated in a challenge, but I have participated in blogging contests.  I don’t know how many people are involved in the challenge, but it is a great way to network with others.  Be sure to tweet their posts and comment on them – it can go a long way in building new relationships!

Where do you guys find the challenges and contests? I’ve been blogging for three years and never heard of them.

    Guess I’m sheltered? LOL

  • @donpurdum I entered one on a site I regularly contributed to in 2010. Since then, I get emails from people holding contests asking if I want to participate or sponsor.  You can also do a Google search for blogging challenge or blogging contest, then sort the results to the last week so you can get the latest information.  It might be a post that says “Support my entry in the ___ contest” that will lead you to the blog holding the contest.

  • @kristi-hines

Interesting. I’ll have to try that sometime very soon.

  • @donpurdum The contests are nice… I won somewhere around $1,500 cash & an iPad from three contests last year.  If you go that route, check out the section in this post (http://kikolani.com/how-to-make-money-online-through-blogging-and-writing.html) on tips for entering contests.

I actually stumbled across your post a moment ago on a Google search. My audience probably isn’t big enough yet. We just started The Internet Conference last month. It’s growing pretty quickly, but not enough yet.

Yesterday, we had 40 unique visitors. It’s small but we have a lot to share. The concept is solid and it grows between 10-12 every day for the last week.

Maybe in a few months it will be ready as our audience grows. We are adding 10 writers that will start contributing next week. All have generous audiences that will come with them.

I would love your opinion on the site. It’s http://www.theinternetconference.net.

    Thanks Kristi!

  • @donpurdum Well, the one I’m participating in is one that I created myself and am urging other individuals and businesses to participate in…so it wasn’t too hard for me to find :) But, I’ve also seen them the same way @kristi-hines has found contests however I apparently haven’t found the right ones since the ones I’ve done haven’t offered cash prizes in amounts of $1500 or an ipad!!

  • @kristi-hines I’m assuming the prizes you won meant that you did very well in the contest, right? What were some of the ‘lower’ prizes?

  • @sloanec First place in those, yes.  Some contests just have one prize, others have breakdowns for the top 3 or 5 people that range in $50 to $100 for the bottom prize winners.  Really it just depends on sponsorship, but the goal is always to gun for first!  :)
