Why do you like blogging? (25 posts)

  • Having a blog can be cool!  Tell us why you like blogging!

  • Great question @phil-mershon!  I like blogging because I enjoy teaching.  Having my own blog allows me to help others learn about new technology and apply it to their own online pursuits whether it is blogging for personal, professional, or business purposes.

  • Great answer @kristi-hines! I like blogging because it gives me a place to express thoughts. Organizing my thoughts in written forms helps me think more clearly. To then be able to get people to provide immediate feedback and interaction is gratifying–especially when it helps them personally or professionally. I like to call it social writing. Unlike writing for magazines or other print publications, I get immediate feedback on the value of what I’ve written.

  • For me blogging stems from my passion for writing.

I’m using my blog (and other blogs) as a way to establish a platform on which I can speak about content. Also, may I add that selective guest blogging has done great things for me. I have been able to ‘meet’ very interesting people (some of whom I went on to meet in person e.g. both of you @Kristi-hines and @Phil Mershon.

Blogging has opened up some pretty huge doors for me this year :)

  • I think that all the replies here will relate one to each other. :)

Personally I like blogging because I get to share my knowledge with other people.

In time I learned that things which for me are trivial really make a difference for others and nothing makes me happier than a thank you message for some advice that made a change.

  • I enjoy blogging it allows me to serve my Hotel Family in a unique way.

Coaching my Hotel Family on principles that will help them serve their guest, and create relationships with Champion Advocates for their brand. Social Media is bringing Hospitality to new dimensions.

I see myself as the new Hotelier – The Social Network Hotelier and my doors are open for you all to be my guests.

    Cheers..

  • I love the world it opens up and brings closer to us!

What a wonderful adventure to be living with today’s communication tools!

  • I love to write, and blogging lets me do it whenever I want. As @phil-mershon said, blogging can be a great way to organize your thoughts and, I would add, to learn all about a topic.

I think every small business owner should blog, because it will help them to become more connected with customers. The constant need to say interesting things to customers takes us beyond that tendency to just give sales pitches. When we commit to providing useful content, we commit to a path of learning, sharing, and becoming better at our business.

  • It’s been the best thing for my industry.  As an artist and a photographer there is a constant change in the work we produce.   I LOVE the stories behind the images I take and blogging with the photos allows me to tell the story.  It’s another creative outlet.   I decided too that I needed to let people just know me in all aspects of my life.  I enjoy reading others blogs too.

  • I like blogging because there are no rules to writing.  I primarily want to share insights, thoughts and opinions that will hopefully help someone.  I also like the fact that it helps to show more of who I am authentically.

  • @leilajones That’s a great point about stories! People love good stories :)

  • I like blogging because it allows me to write how I speak.  I’ve never been the best writer when it came to academia, and though I realize the importance of grammer in all cases, I do much better when given the freedom to write in a conversational tone.

Speaking is a strong suit for me, so writing in a comfortable manner just flows.  Fortunately, my blog is all about party supplies and fairly light-hearted topics.  I’ve been lucky the grammar police haven’t broken my door down over some posts.

  • There is satisfaction in knowing that when I turn off the computer at the end of the day, people all over the world can read my work. They are reading my blog because they want to! It isn’t the only newspaper in town. They can spend their time reading anything and some of them are reading my work. I’ve been in journalism and publishing for 30 years, but for the first time, I have the sense that what I write has gotten past the publishers and establishment and has the power to make a difference.

  • I haven’t found my stride yet in blogging (I’m hoping I will with this club).  The appeal for me is the platform it provides to help, inform, and pontificate with other people who might be interested in the same topics.

  • @christinamarie7 It’s never too late to start… all you have to do is take action.

  • I’m not a personal blogger – though the idea has, as of late, intrigued me…I have a lot I’d love to start sharing! After reading all of the above posts, maybe this club will inspire me to start!?

  • Every time I blog I learn something new!

  • I started writing short stories and poems for fun when I was young — and would share some of my writings with close friends.  I started blogging in 1999, and it really started from my love of writing and sharing things that interested me.  I never cared how many people read my work, and was happy just to have a few comments here and there.  And that is still true for me today.  I will write even if nobody is reading my blog just because I’m passionate about what I write about.  I’ve started food blogs, short story blogs, education/productivity blogs, business blogs, and now I’m writing about Google Plus for Business.  These are all areas that interest me — and that’s why I do it.

  • Great reasons, all. And since bloggers are writers, thought you’d like this quote I found – cause, boy, is it true!

“A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people.” Thomas Mann

  • I started blogging to get over the fear of writing. I still have visions of the red pen marks on my English papers from High School and College. I was not on the teachers favorite list. However, do the thing you fear, and it will subside…which I have found to be true. Still have a ways to go on improvement, but having fun.
I blog about Social Media, Leadership, Photography and Banks vs. Credit Unions.

  • I began blogging because I enjoy writing about being a professional organizer. It’s fun putting tips in a post and having someone tell me that they tried a tip at home and it worked for them. I struggle with finding the plugins that would be most useful, and find it difficult to determine differences between similar plugins.

I blog about reducing clutter, why we keep things, and separating what doesn’t matter from the things you treasure.

  • So people blog because they want to help people, because they love to write, because in writing you sort out things in your own head and learn stuff too… These are all reasons why I blog too
    BUT
    Here’s a supplementary question….

Do you have  a strategy? Is your writing leading somewhere? Are you leading your audience to buy something from you?

That could be a service you offer or it could be a product – digital or not –

If your blogging has no structure or direction, your audience will not be progressing towards a predetermined outcome.

I’m thinking out loud here but I’m sure your get the gist of what I’m driving at

Please give me your 10 cents… It could be worth a dollar to me :)

  • i like blogging to help people. basically my entire career in the IT field was training or developing applications that helped people do their job better. When I entered blogging, I thought “what a great way to help people” and I focus on writing how-to blog articles and related topics.

  • I like blogging because I will get onto a point and go into more detail on it than most of my friends can tolerate, and this gives me an outlet… Also in the vain hopes that what I think or have to say will help someone else in some way!

  • Wow, great information.

I’m new to blogging and have found the experience rewarding.  As with others above, I’m looking forward to providing information to clients, prospects and others that serves and is of value.

The ability to quickly get feedback is something that our firm and I are really interested in.  The world is evolving so quickly, it’s great to get feedback that you can alter course/offerings and tailor them to the needs of your stakeholders.
