  • I want to start blogging to generate traffic to my brands website, I was just wondering what the best strategy would be. I will definitely create a blog in my brands name basically telling its story and updating readers on up and coming products, but I was also thinking I should start a blog under my name possibly to express all the experiences I’ve had so far creating the brand and what I possibly would have done differently if I were to do it all again. Now by no means is my company what you would call a successful clothing brand and I am wondering weather or not this could come across as strange that I seam to be giving advice to people on the basis that I am an expert on creating a successful brand when my brand is still an infant. I am a new member to this fantastic group so any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

  • You don’t necessary have to position yourself as an expert for a personal blog. Apart from having the blog to serve as a tool for self reflection and accountability in running a business, documenting your journey and learnings along the way can sometimes be great content for readers because they can relate to your story or experience easily.

Personally, I always find the stories behind learnings or lessons to be interesting as they provide a context on the advice given. Perhaps this is also why interview shows like Mixergy do well.

    Have fun blogging,Wayne

  • Thanks for the reply Wayne that’s great feedback and your right it will be a great way to reflect and it could actually be good advice to people starting out. Now what do you think about Headlines, I was listening to the Social Media Marketing podcast the other day and they suggested using headlines that would get maximum google hits, and I was thinking something like: “How to start a clothing label” or something like that. Does this mislead the reader at all or is this perfectly fine as long as I clearly state that by no means is my brand a “successful one” ?

  • @scott-mackenzie I agree with @wayneliew. I started blogging by sharing my experiences. As time went by, I learned more and shared that knowledge which helped build me up as an authority. :)

  • @scott-mackenzie Actually, I’m not too sure about that because I normally write blog posts that are mostly tutorials and guides (like most of the articles here on SME). “How to Start a Clothing Label” seems to generic for a 1000-word blog post.

However, I love reading interviews and personal stories of entrepreneurs. Here are some headline styles that always capture my attention:

    • Looking Back: 10 Things I Would Not Have Done While Starting a Clothing Label
    • How My Clothing Label Successfully Break Even After 6 Months
    • Case Study: How I Nailed 7 Boutique Deals in a Week
    • Starting a Clothing Label: 10 Headaches You Should Expect
    • Life After Launching a Clothing Label
    • How I Got the Money to Launch My Clothing Label
    • Running a Clothing Label: A Day in Life
These are things that an aspiring or existing clothing designer or label owner would like to read and share.
You can visit interview websites like Mixergy for similar titles.
    Hope the above helps. :)
