Other than Wordpress, what blog software do you recommend using for a professional blog? I am open to Free (who doesn’t love free) as well as paid options.

I create sites using Expression Engine it is my preferred CMS —I love it.

There is Blogger, which is owned by Google. It doesn’t offer as many themes as Wordpress, but it is free even if you sell ads on it. In theory, another plus about it is that since it is owned by Google, it should interact better with other Google-owned products, such as Google Analytics, Feedburner, Google Plus, etc. I have noticed that it does interact well with Google Ad Sense and it seems having it’s ads on your blog improves your SEO and web traffic.

There are more than 40 different blogging platforms, so really, any of them are okay. TypePad is a very good one, although you have to pay for it. Posterous is good, but may be going away after Twitter bought it. And Tumblr is good for short form blogging, although it may not be as professional as WordPress. I like Blogger (my personal blog is on it), but I don’t like it for a professional blog. It doesn’t have the same look or functionality I would want in something for a full-fledged business.
Of these, TypePad will be your best bet for a professional-looking blog. But I would still go with WordPress.

@seleanaw I tried Drupal and Joomla on domains that I bought just to test them, but I prefer WordPress.

@richardmclaughlin it certainly is. I grabbed that link because it showed such a large selection, and showed images of each cms, and also broke them down into categories.
