blog feedback? (21 posts)

  • Just wondering if anyone would be interested in having a “first impression” feedback from other bloggers. How will this work? Check in here and give your blog address. Visit others who have posted their address. Leave a comment on here (so if it is constructive criticism it won’t be public) with a @name designation. This doesn’t have to be complicated, just a quick first impression response-”intriguing” “artistic” “clean” minimum and maybe up to a phrase. Not to add a huge work load to anyone but to get helpful outsider impressions. What do you think?

  • So, what do you think? Here is mine: The Baron York

  • You’ve got a good idea @DeaIrby

I checked out your blog.  Glad you added pictures – enticed me to read on. Like the premise of using often-use ingredients.  And in the posts I scanned through, you were creating new recipes out of leftovers (something I do too).  You’ve got an opt-in for subscribers (good) and share buttons for Social Media at the end of each post (good).

In your Pantry Raid #5 up top, the pic you used is great – very inviting – but I’d suggest just a little smaller because the text on the side runs down quite a ways and athough I’m not sure why, I didn’t like reading down so far.

Many of the top bloggers suggest using bullet points because the eye is drawn to those short bursts of text and that would work great for the ingredients of the recipes.

I see you are using Wordpress.com.   I had a blog (and still do) on Wordpress.com but in 2 years, hardly anyone found it.  Why?  Because your URL is http:/thebaronyork.wordpress.com.  Google and other Search Engines seem to have a great deal of trouble finding Wordpress.com blogs.  When I downloaded Wordpress.org onto my domain, it found my blog and site in 2 days!

    Just my thoughts…

    My blog is:  http://www.alternativeofficeassistance.com/blog

  • -First, thanks so much for giving such a thorough look and eval for my blog. I so appreciate it. -Second, visited your blog. Wow! First impression was that you are loaded with great content. It is clean and well presented. Nice graphics evenly dispersed. -One thing I looked for was a search block that would allow me to search your blog for desired content since you have so much. It might have been there and I just didn’t see it. @dcoville001

  • @deairby Great idea, although just to note anything left on this thread will be public.  If you have anything you would not want shared publicly, be sure to do so through the private messages.  :)

  • @DeaIrby I think you have a nice blog. I like the header picture. I was not too fond of raid #4. I didn’t think a picture on each side of the text made it very readable.Jorgen

  • @dianecolville I liked the look and feel of your blog. I’m not sure you use a template as you have used different fonts for the same type of text in at least one of your posts. I couldn’t quite follow your color scheme for headers and subheaders. I had the same problem until I found out what I wanted. Now I use the same template every time.

I think your blog is nice and it will make readers come back.

    Here is my blog http://www.thecatalystpartnership.wordpress.com/

  • Wow, thanks so much for your input. I’m going to check your blog out. @jorgenpoulsen

  • Public/private, I considered this forum to be the inner circle but I forgot that non-members can come here to read it too. @kristi-hines

  • Thanks for all your comments. Your blog is very clean and (as you have purposed) your pictures are very poignant. You have much valuable content that you have divided in sections which helps the longevity.  I use wordpress and will investigate using a template. My creative nature will be challenged to find a box and stay in it! I am now following you and hope to return to more thoroughly read your posts. @jorgenpoulsen

  • @deairby thanks for your comment. It’s not that I have found and downloaded a template. Perhaps I should have said that I follow the same format. Introduction, Goals For This Post, Conclusion, CTA and I should add picture. The picture and the introduction assures that it looks nice on FB and LinkedIn in their previews. They will see a nice picture and you can entice them to read it even more bu giving them a few exciting lines. So the picture is like a mini post of the whole post. The format also makes it much easier for the readers because they get used to it and know what to expect. For sure my format doesn’t work for everybody. You have to find a format that works well for most of your posts.Jorgen

  • good point, I didn’t think about mobile uploads and needing the short catch at the top. I think I saw on wp that you can copy a previous post to create a “template” if you will. Best of the new year to you. @jorgenpoulsen

  • @deairby, I actually didn’t even think about mobile uploads so there’s another reason.Godspeed to you and your family for 2012.

  • Great idea, you get so used to your blog you don’t really see stuff sometimesmine is elementalcheapness.com

  • love the clean look, great title and subtitle, good mix of photos, text, video and links! Also, great, desirable subject matter @sabrinamantle

  • @deairby

Dea I really appreciate this opportunity.

My blog link is in my profile but just in case use this link to my Thai Silk Magic Blog

  • A new blogger has posted her link. Great inclusion into your main website and what compelling writing. The grandmother’s lesson is a great reminder to any of us in the business world. Thanks for sharing, Amnuai. @dcoville001 @amnuaibeckenham @sabrinamantle @jorgenpoulsen @kristi-hines

  • Took a look at your blog Amnuai and for me I’d like to see more color since you have such a beautiful subject. If your template has the options maybe some color/pattern around the borders? More pictures too, especially on the home page, you might try tightening up the spacing on the text and dotting it with lovely pic of your fabrics to add punch. As a buyer I would want to see the scarves spread out in close up in addition to the overall look.

  • @sabrinamantle

Many thanks Sabrina. Great idea but I’m only a real beginner and not sure just how I can add color and patterns around the edges….but I will try.Really appreciate your time and expertise. But I was a little confused with one of your comments re our home page. Were you referring to our website home page?

  • @amnuaibeckenham

Sorry, yes I think it was the home page to the website, it was about your grandmother, I just felt like it was a lot of white space and text and would be nice to add some interest. As far as the borders go, if you are creating the website your self what host are you using. Do they have different templates? Some offer templates that let you change border colors or even upload photos to use as borders. If you can’t do that just a few lovely pics in the text would help.

  • @sabrinamantle

Thanks so much Sabrina – you have been very helpful

    Best wishes

    Amnuai
