Auto Download Question (12 posts)

  • As much of the conversation on blogging talks about giving away valuable free content, how exactly do you  do it? When I request an e-book for example, and I enter in my name, email, etc. for their list, how did they set it up to automatically download to me? Is it an app? A service?

The answer is probably very easy and obvious but I have no idea how to do it. Right now I reply to each request and manually send files. It’s time consuming and less than professional.

Sue, what a timely question… as I went over to my blog to get the name of my WordPress Download Manager by Mike Jolley… and jolley Mike had a new message saying he was no longer going to update or maintain that plugin.

So, honey, I’m in the same boat with you, lol.

I do use WordPresents, which is a paid-for plugin with an awesome presentation for your download or giveaway… 3 versions… my favorite is a stage with red curtains and your guest has to click or pull on the gold rope to make your “present” appear… then voila, the curtain opens and your present is giftwrapped, then unopen it and download. Makes you smile, lol. And I do remember they allowed you to enter your own gifts, not just theirs.

Don’t know if that would work for you, as it is not an optin thing… more of just giving away goodies to your viewers, though you can add an optin on your Thankyou page maybe or … can’t remember.

But I DID just come across an awesome multi-video tutorial on the whole sales funnel process (whether selling or just giving away stuff) and it is awesome!!!! totally free… with an upgrade option, of course, lol.

Let me run see if I can find that link for you. It will help educate you… with great visuals (I used my JING to copy several of their images of their funnel for my longterm reference files).

    I’ll be back, she said…

Honestly, I haven’t reeeeeeeeally put it into action yet, as I’m dealing with other website problems and haven’t gotten around to it, so the font sizing, etc. is off here. Still, I kinda like it in a cutesy way.
Now for that tutorial link… Be back…

This guy’s name is Aaron and I found him last night… watch half the videos, then wanted to see his upgrade. Then, took the time to track him down and thank him for such an AWESOME FREE WSO. I have never seen anyone create such a logical absolute answer to everyone’s sales funnel prayers. Very good freebie. His upgrade, however, is a done for you deal… (I’m going to get, fer sher, for my reference files… to copy and copy)… but Aaron’s not doing custom work, only doing these funnels for his products.
But, obviously, the point of his awesome freebie tutorials is so his students know EXACTLY what must be done at each stage they include in their funnel (freebie or paid) and after getting that great eduction, MANY will exhale and say… let Aaron do it! Pure genius WSO (warrior special offer).
Bottom line is… someone in their is a video on what you are asking about, lol… Everything’s titled well and easy to follow. Hope that helps… if not now, then for future…

  • Sales Funnel Tutorials… Free… Including Download Page Info

  • Thanks for all the effort in answering my question Robin! Can’t wait to review the info. Hmm … Like the idea of red curtains opening and customer interaction more than just clicking on a link.

  • If you are going to give something away, then you need to be capturing contact details and following up with those contacts. The only practical way to do this is to use an autoresponder such as aweber, trafficwave, etc.

You then set it up to send people to a particular page after they confirm email. (always have them confirm)

You then put your freebie on a hidden page on your site, then when people confirm, set autoresponder to send them to the page you put freebie on so they can download it.

I’d put link to that page in first email too, just in case.

If you use Aweber, you can set it up to auto send your new blog posts to your subscribers, set up a series of mails and send one of emails to your list as often as you need.

One thing about using autoresponders though – never sell to subscribers for first week or two, just send valuable content and build trust.

  • Thanks Liza. I use an autoresponder now through Constant Contact. But I believe I can only do one autoresponder series that I currently use to follow up on trade show leads but I’ll have to check that. I really appreciate the detailed direction.

  • @atlantarobin @sparkiefunizza Thanks to both of you for providing good links to check out.  It’s always great when bloggers recommend what is working well for them to those of us who are newer to the process… :)

    Appreciate it!

  • @sparkiefunizza Yes, definitely ditto what Liza said.

  • @atlantarobin@jlhilleary your both very welcome. :)

  • @sue-monhait  Hi Sue  I use MailChimp exclusively. This is how I set up a “free” item for download. I customize the “thank you for subscribing” page with a link to the “free” download.

Auto-responders are used for drip campaigns. Which can be built for a free download. But free download subscriptions DO NOT have to have an auto responder built for them.

I hope this helps and I was able to explain it in such a way you can understand. If not let me know and I’ll take another crack at it.
