Are your graphics high resolution? (3 posts)

  • I’ve noticed lately that when I view website images on my iPhone 4S that they look really fuzzy. MailChimp has been harping on HD graphics for emails that will be read on SmartPhone and mobile devices.

72dpi for images in emails and on websites just won’t cut it anymore … I’ve been using 250dpi lately to compensate for HD images.

I just read this blog post by the father of website useability, Jakob Nielsen. While he’s talking about fonts … he does give the dpi for all of the latest mobile equipment. http://www.useit.com/alertbox/web-typography.html

  • @amyhallbiz Good info to know. My husband has been using higher DPI on his photography website and it is paying off with the higher resolution displays.  Unfortunately, all of the advice until now has been to compress images as small as possible for faster load time which is resulting in lots of crappy looking images on new devices.

  • @kristi-hines  There has to be a way to have high quality images and fast load times. We’ve been experimenting with a CDN for a couple of our high image sites. It’s working well so far.
