  • When you Link your Google+ page to your site are you using your page or personal profile number?

    It seems logical to make the connection between your page and your website, but as a blogger wouldn’t you want your personal self to be related as the “author”…

  • I think you are correct @juleswebb , that’s why I linked only the home page to the Google+ page, then the rest of the blog posts and pages are actually linked to their authors’s G+ profiles.

    Also, I notice that Google’s rich snippets test tool show an error when on pages that has a relation publisher and author at the same time!

  • @hesham

    I actually had not considered that.  I was just setting up my Google+ profile and page and wasn’t sure what to do. I think you have the right idea, especially as a blogger.

    Since I’m a web developer and not a “blogger” I’m wondering if I shouldn’t stick with the page since that’s what I’m thinking I should be associated with.

    I’m doing the blog as a resource for my clients and as a way to create brand trust and credibility with potential clients. Of course more will probably be reading than that, but that’s who I’m catering to.

    I just went live today. I have a whole 2 posts published, 2 more drafts and one in my head:) Not bad for a first time blogging geeky girl!

    With that in mind what is your recommendation?

  • Congratulation @juleswebb ,

    I think you need both! (unless this is a personal blog)

    They say, you are your own brand, also your blog must have its own personality, this means a Google+ page for your blog, and don’t forget to brand yourself, that’s a Google profile for you!

    Probably this is the best way to grow in the future considering that you will do more projects, each one should have its own personally that is independent!

    I hope this makes sense!

    Also, I hope to read some other openings from the network thinkers!

  • @juleswebb All of my links to Google+ on my blog are directed to my personal profile.  But what you can do, for the best of both worlds, is connect your Google+ page to your website using the Direct Connection code snippet here (http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1708844) and use one of the authorship options to connect your posts to your personal profile here (http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1408986).

    When it comes to using the badge / buttons for your sidebar like you would to promote your Twitter and Facebook accounts, just choose whether you would like the most followers to your personal profile or your page.  Or include both so people can choose to follow you personally or through your page.

  • @hesham @kristi-hines

    After reading the links Kristi provided this is the strategy I’m going with.

    I’m going to link my Google+ icon (or badge as Google calls it) to my Google+ Page (rel=publisher)  I also added < link href = ” https://plus.google.com/my-page-ID ” rel = “publisher” /  > to the head of my pages.

    On each article I’m going to make the author name a link to the author’s Google+ Profile (rel=”author”)

    I figure this will cover things nicely and if I ever do have guest authors ( as Hesham’s recent article highlighted) I’ll be all set.

    Thanks for the feedback you guys!

  • slightly off topic but related.

    does everyone +1 their own posts when they publish?

  • @dextereugenio

    Obviously I’m new, but it sounds like a good idea.

    @hesham
    @kristi-hines

    What say you?

  • @dextereugenio Yes, I plus every post as it will show to people in my circles in search results that I + ed it, which I wasn’t sure is right or wrong! but it looks like I was wrong! It just turned to bring those posts up in my own search results (when I am logged in to my Google+ account), I didn’t like it that much and I think it’s enough to just share.

    @dextereugenio Maybe you should open this discussion in a new thread since it might change the topic :)

  • @dextereugenio @juleswebb I don’t +1 my posts, but I do share them on my Google+ profile.  Either way, when it comes into search, it will show that I shared the article.

  • @dextereugenio – I’m currently +1 my articles after they are published, but I don’t know that this is optimal. I haven’t heard one way or another.

  • I am working on linking them up—I also share them on my Google+ profile, like  @kristi-hines said. I know Google+ is great for SEO, but as a social media platform I am not quite impressed yet. It seems like a duplicate of Facebook, only with mostly technology/marketers there.
