Anyone using Yoast Google Analytics plug-in? (10 posts)

  • Do you like it? Any tips?

    Can you rec similar/competitive solutions?

  • I use it and I really like it. It’s straight-forward and provides you with a lot of great data. I’ve never used anything similar or competitive so I can’t help you there.

  • I use it I love it. I made sure that I went through the entire setup. I think it helps.

  • @phildunn  Funny… I read a lot of good reviews over the weekend. Tried and tried to install it. Checked Youtube videos… kept hitting an error. As a web developer I’ve set up a lot of WP site and  learned that not all plugins work with all themes or play nicely with each other. So I just cut my losses after an hour or so and used another plugin. I will probably try it again on another site soon.

  • Thanks for the input Jennifer & Glen. Will give it a shot.

So true about theme conflict, Abigail. What’s the other one you ended up using?

  • With near 3Mil downloads and a support that Yoast has you can bet the coding on this plugin is top notch.http://wordpress.org/tags/google-analytics-for-wordpress

If your having problems with this plugin look over the forum and see what others have had to say. I use his SEO plugin and follow his tutorials cause he is the most WP savy developer that I know of.

I have not installed this plugin but would consider so if I had the WP-E-Commerce plugin installed to use the custom Variables to track the sales funnel. Great for shopping cart abandonment data.

  • @phildunn I just use Google Analytics itself on my site without a plugin, but some of the features Yoast has (tracking logged in user activity, page views per author, etc.) do look pretty interesting.  If you need it for that kind of detail, I’d say go for it.

  • On the site in question I ended up using ‘Google Analytics’ and ‘Google Analytics Dashboard’ I think there is a possibility that the issue is I am developing on a server that already has an old site that is live and in root. Once I go live, and get the WP site into root, I may try again. I completely believe the issue was circumstantial…  sometimes I’ll use a plugin just fine on 5 site and it will choke on the 6th… just can’t put too much time into investigating it! After the 3rd awkward techie talking into a low res video tutorial I was kind of ready to get back to my Saturday, KWIM?

  • @kristi-hines @abigailgorton @phildunn – I had trouble with the plugin conflicting with a WordPress theme I was using, so, like Kristi, I install the Analytics code in the appropriate spot and then just log in to Google to use the Analytics.

  • Straight analytics code (GA) seems to make sense for most situations.

I’ll give Yoast a try and follow up with any insights here. Thanks for all the input, folks.

  • We’ve tried several different SEO plugins, both for clients and our own blog, and Yoast has been the best one we’ve used. We switched everyone over to it, and haven’t had any problems.

We’re also starting to get into Schemas, and have a plugin for that too.
