Any good tips on Best Practices for List Building (3 posts)

  • Hi friends here at SME.

One of my goals for 2013 is to grow my email Subscriber base at a more steady pace.

I am aiming for 33 subscriptions per day. Which equals around 1000 subscriptions per month.

So it would be great to get some input here on some of the best practices that worked for your blog.

I am also in the same manner working on strategies that lower my subscription drop out rates. So add some thoughts here on what you found help decrease drop out rates.

And I am at this time looking primary at email subscriptions,  not so much RSS subscriptions.

Thanks in advance for all tips and ideas..

    Cheers..

  • Hi Are,

Few things that will help increase your subscribers…

    1. Move the opt-in box to the TOP portion of your blog. Don’t make anyone scroll down to see your opt-in.

    2. Give people a COMPELLING reason to opt-in. What could you offer your audience for free that they would normally pay for from a competitor? (Take a look at your competitors)

Example… How to Increase Hotel Bookings by 30% Just From Social Media

    3. Help with opt-outs….

When someone opts-in make sure what you’re offering is getting them a RESULT. You could also start a Facebook page where you answer questions, get feedback, and help them get a result.

This builds trust and helps prove you can deliver the goods. And it keeps people tuned in to your emails.

Once you have your opt-in offer tested and working, then it’s just a matter of driving traffic to your site.

    Good luck Are! :)

  • Glen, I think result is most key…. for both opt-in and then retention. My personal experience  with opting in is that once there is a n optin, the blogger will be tempted to pound away to sell stuff in every email and that is sorta repulsive. The emails that I look forward to are informative and helpful to me, for example, I like to receive Social Media Examiner because it has huge value to me and only once in a while is there something to buy. I like to receive from Pat Flynn as he has content geared to building a niche business and no selling. This approach builds trust, and when I buy something I will go to these sites and honor their affiliate relationship. One thing that Pat Flynn does monthly is publish his internet income with details as to how he did it, even his mistakes, people subscribe in droves, to get his tips..
