Aggravated at G+ (8 posts)

  • I can’t seem to keep a Google Plus account.  Short story is, I usually have one for 3-6 months and then get suspended.  I could appreciate this fact if I was spamming, harassing, or blatantly violating the rules, but I’m not.
I simply share my blog posts, and other people’s posts as well.  I interact with others on Google Plus, and I also have Google Authorship Markup for my blog, so I have verified myself.
I can’t seem to find anyone that can give me a specific answer for this problem.  I have even grasped at a huge straw and contacted Matt Cutts about this to no avail.
When I share, I share to the public.  One person told me that I would have to contact Google to let them know that I was real, but that’s a big waste of time because no one will get back with me.  I have also left a post in the Google Communities answer boards to try to get this resolved.
My question is for people like @kristi-hines that has a large following and have been on G+ for awhile without this problem.  I really don’t know what else to do…
Maybe I’m sharing wrong? Should I not share this much?  It’s not that much really, but probably 5-15 per day.
Any suggestions?  I will say that when I got my first two Google Plus accounts I added a lot of people to my circles right away.  With this one, I am just letting people add me and then I add them back.
    My Google Plus Profile

  • @wade-harman That’s weird… I haven’t heard of anyone who is repeatedly getting deleted. I only post a few times a week there, but I know of plenty of people who post more often daily (like Guy Kawasaki who numbers his posts because there are so many). You might want to see this thread (https://productforums.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/google-plus-discuss/HhW02zul5OI%5B1-25-true%5D) where people are talking about reinstating accounts and appeals. This person was ultimately removed for talking about products relating to drugs which I’m sure isn’t applicable to you, but there might be something in the Google+ guidelines that is getting you.

  • Wade, sometimes people may flag you as spamming… as 10-15 of anything a day “sounds” like spam, even if everyone else gets away with it… and after a certain number red flag you, you just get banned.

You also may be in a niche that warrants or attracts extra scrutiny, whether personally deserved, applicable or not. So you might try cutting your posting by half for a while… and see if that gets you at least a longer time before getting “suspended.”

Suspended sounds much better than banned,. What’s the difference or is there?

Another thing… do you have a Google Place page that ties you to a single address? Google likes to know you have roots, that you’re really who you say you are, and that you’ve been in business a while and are going to stay in business.

But this has got to be sooooo frustrating for you. But I’m wondering, how do you get a NEW account with a new Authored profile. I mean… isn’t that the point of having everything attached and linked and promoted as a Google Author account? If they ban you, that should be the end of it (horrible, I know). But are you saying that you can just go out and re-establish your “authored” status by just opening up a new account? That can’t be Google approved, can it?

Last thing… be wary of copyright issues. I’m hearing tales of the YouTube-Google tied clamped down within the last couple of months. I even went back to check any “copyright” issues I might have overlooked in YT videos. Sure enough, those that had been fine and passed scrutiny before suddenly showed up in an “in-between” status of “there’s a coyright issue, but it’s ok for now.” These were videos I made with copyrighted music for which I paid for rights to use. Still, if Google/YouTube tells you there’s “an issue,” they can ban you in a heartbeat and you rarely get to explain you DO have rights, even when they give you the means to do so. So I went back and just replaced the music with something I created or music YouTube itself put in its audio editor suite for such purposes.

Meaning… go overboard in NOT doing anything out of the ordinary that MIGHT get you banned. But I would NOT get into a discussion with them on what you MIGHT have done wrong, if you do get to speak with them. I would concentrate all my efforts in showing them how you deliberately and methodically have a plan to do everything RIGHT. So if something passed by you that’s wrong, you reeeeeally want to know. But come at them with a “I’ve done nothing wrong stance,” and I think you’ll quickly get nowhere with them.

Just my thoughts… Please update us on what happens. Wish you luck.

  • Well, I think I got it under control now.  I finally got Google to confirm my site and I have got the whole rules of sharing under control.  Seems as though when you share you should share to “Public” and not “Your Circles” all the time.  Thanks for the help.

  • Great to hear you soved your issue…

  • @wade-harman

Wade, did they say why? Did someone in your circles complain or red flag you? What’s the difference in sharing to Public and Your Circles? I know I usually just click yes to whatever pops up. So what is it that can get someone banned for sharing only to their Circles? That seems wierd…

Please forgive the 20 questions, but I’m always hyper-wary of anything that can get someone banned, but this doesn’t quite make sense. Could you share what their reasoning was?

Thanks in advance for your help…

  • @Robin-Carlisle No they did not give any indication as to why I kept getting suspended.  All I can think of is this:

When you share to Google Plus you have the option to share to your circles, public, etc.  I was only sharing to my circles.  All I can think of is that when you share with your circles, you share posts directly with people, and you can even email them with the post too.  In doing this, it probably got my flagged by a lot of different people as I was sharing so much every day.

I have now been only sharing to “Public” and it has worked a whole lot better for me.  Only tag people that you really know, and lay low.  Sorry I couldn’t be more specific with the advice, but that’s what I think got me suspended all the time.  So only share to “public” when you do share.

You may as well add me on Google Plus, since I feel like I know you now! lol!  And you can share directly to me, I don’t care!

  • Glad to hear your issue got fixed! They (any big company) usually don’t tell you the exact reason why you get suspended. Which is counter-intuitive, especially when you need to know why in order NOT to do it again!

I remember working at a previous company, and I got a message saying someone flagged one of company’s Facebook photos as “inappropriate.” They wouldn’t tell me WHICH photo! That left me extremely puzzled (and then paranoid about uploading) since it was all convention show (non-sexy) photos.
