  • If you haven’t already read Managing Content Marketing: The Real-World Guide for Creating Passionate Subscribers to Your Brand by Robert Rose and Joe Pulizzi you may want to check it out.

    I’ve been reading the past few days and its been extremely helpful in getting my head around what content marketing is and why it’s so critical for bloggers.

    As the authors write,
    Content marketing is a strategy focused on the creation of a valuable experience. It is humans being helpful to each other, sharing valuable pieces of content that enrich the community and position the business as a leader in the field. It is content that is engaging, imminently sharable, and, most of all, focused on helping customers to discover (on their own) that your product or service is the one that will scratch their itch.”

  • Humans being helpful to each other – wow! A way I haven’t heard content marketing explained before. It’s so true, though! I haven’t read it, but from the quote, I definitely need to read it! Content marketing is of course important, but there’s always more to learn from it in order to best utilize it for business or personal usage.

    Thanks for the recommendation!

  • @morganbarnhart You’re welcome. I think you’ll really enjoy it.

  • Thank you so much  @debbie-hemley for this. I wish I’d seen it yesterday. I was in B&N and would have picked it up. ;-)  I work with Retail Store Owners. Many have a difficult time with Social Media because they’re used to just sitting there and having the money come to them. Well, it isn’t coming in like it used to and they need to understand that they cannot simply stick their hands out for us to buy, we expect more. This is where it gets most difficult, realizing that customers have expectations of THEM now. Its almost viewed as being beneath them having to WORK for the business. I have to go the “Cocktail Party” route with them all and it helps but it is a real challenge. It will be wonderful to have a reference guide to make sure I’m doing all I can to help them understand so we can work together to contribute to the greater good.

  • @debbie-hemley Thanks for sharing Debbie!  :)

  • @dyanebradley I hear you and know what you mean.

    I think this will be a good reference guide, the role of good content and why it has become so essential.

    @kristi-hines My pleasure :)

  • awesome subject, never heard of it until now, thanks @debbie-hemley

  • ooops, I should have made this comment with the last one. I went to the link and saw it was a book not an article to read. How about giving some pointers from your reading, an update, an outline?@debbie-hemley

  • @debbie-hemley @deairby @kristi-hines @morganbarnhart Jumping in on this thread here – if you are interested in content marketing, I am told there is a must-read book by Ann Hedley & CC Chapman. Both of them were speakers during Social Media Success Summit and Facebook Success Summit, both organize by SME in 2011 (and previous years).

    Content Rules: How to Create Killer Blogs, Podcasts, Videos, Ebooks, Webinars (and More) That Engage Customers and Ignite Your Business
